Denim is arguably the most accessible fashion piece in the world. A wardrobe must-have and every fashionista’s essential. It is versatile, easy to style and works in any climate! I collaborated with The Metro Stores as they celebrate denim in their Big Denim Party with up to 50% off their denim items starting June 15 until July 15! This is Part 2.
As vintage fashion gets the spotlight more and more these days, from bright color palettes to high street statements, it’s fun to be reminded of the silly pieces, too. When dungarees became on trend again, nostalgia and many childhood memories came over me. Of playgrounds and zoo trips, dungarees were my jam back in the day. Albeit surprising since, much like rompers, it can be hassle for diaper changes. What were you thinking, mom? But I digress.
I found this dungaree during The Metro Stores’ Big Denim Party and it’s one of the most interesting pieces on sale. Why? you ask. Because it is not just a dungaree! You an actually remove the top bit and wear it as pants, so it’s a total bargain as you are actually getting 2 for 1! It has distressed detailing up front which works well with its playfulness, and to go along with that, I paired it with some high cut classics from Converse.
The dungaree is on a looser (not loser!) fit side of things so I paired it up with a relaxed top, as well. However, it is stereotypically feminine with its frills and minuscule pompoms so it contrasts heavily against the raggedy vibe of the denim piece + sneakers. The top is extremely sheer, as well, so layering it underneath is a good example of how to style sheer garments.
Since we’ve covered a lot of textures and trends with just the outfit itself, I thought it’d be good to bring out different colors to the ensemble. A white-blue-white outfit is a fail-safe combination to any colored bag you have in your closet. You can literally don a bright pink back pack or an obnoxious neon transparent plastic-y tote bag and it would still work. I settled with this pretty but quite hard to style satchel of blue grey, red and yellow, as this is one of the rare times I can incorporate this color palette to any of my wardrobe pieces.
Play along and style your hair in pigtails or Leia buns. I went with a half-up top knot hairstyle because, despite despising it before, it was the first hairstyle I thought of when brainstorming this outfit. I’ve fashioned the previously mentioned hairstyles in this blog already, so I think choosing a new one out of the comfort zone is good, especially that this look is all about fun!
