As you may have read in my post on 6 fashion trends to try this year, you’ll know how I’m head over heels with layered ruffles, nowadays. I was going to attend our welcome dinner, for Global Wellness Day with Shangri-La Mactan Resort and Spa, with the dress I wore to the Dubai desert, but as destiny would have it, this skirt caught my eye and heart and, well, eventually, my money, too. Haha!
I came up with multiple ways to style this one but all seemed to summer-y and apt for sunshine use. But because I stubbornly want to wear this to a dinner event, I had to tone down its playful vibe by pairing it with elegant pieces starting with this top.
I found this top many sales ago and I fell in love with its style and texture at the same time. I still have no idea what fabric is used for its body but it has a delicate feel. Somewhat a combination of a minimal electric pleated effect and ruching using an almost-sheer material. It has a thin cotton underneath to create volume and of course, as security so you can wear it without exposing too much. In the chest area, you can see its beautiful lace details with a deep V in the middle with fringes at the edges. Thankfully, the lace doesn’t expose much of what’s underneath, but make sure you wear the correct bra! I’d go for a nude color.
The layered ruffles weren’t the only ones that drew me to this skirt. Its floral print and palette of pastels in blue with yellow, pink and green creates a playful and lighthearted impression. The skirt is gorgeous and even more so with heels, however, I found it tricky to pair this skirt with flats as it can shorten me down. It has a midi length upfront but almost floor-length at the back, so you have to be mindful of the illusions this skirt may create and take it to your advantage.
Since I wanted to suggest elegance with my dinner wear, I matched the yellows of the skirt with this 300-peso (I know, I’m so good with sale finds, you guys!) yellow stilettos from H&M. Stilettos are dangerous but sultry and an easy pick if you want that power oomph! Not to mention the length it gives your legs and that bum lift, 😉.
To complete this look, I had a customized three-tiered tassel earrings made to match with the skirt. But due to unforeseen circumstances, I wasn’t able to get it on time. I had to settle down with this simple but still chic cream tassel earrings. If it was a day event, I’d have this match with a basket bag, but it isn’t. So, I carried this classic white crossbody bag with gold chain.
How do you style bright colors for night events? Give me some tips below!
Vero Moda top, Zalora skirt, H&M heels, Bershka bag, Parfois bracelet, razzletasselph earrings.
