Despite the intermittent downpours Cebu have had the past week, you can’t ignore the fact that when it gets sunny around this time of the year, the heat is beyond the usual we-are-living-in-a-tropical-country kinda heat. Yes, summer is upon us! Spontaneous beach visits, fun island hopping trips and bluer-than-blue seas and skies, are you ready to conquer Summer 2017?
SM Woman has recently launched their Summer ’17 Style Edit which helps women of all sizes, shapes and age to be stylishly confident this summer! From botanical prints to blues and whites, from nautical stripes to the romantics, and to light and easy all-whites, there is so much you can choose from among these SM Woman designs.
They invited SM Seaside shoppers to participate in a talk-and-walk event where the gorg Blinky de Leon talked about the different fashion styles that they can don this summer. Then, the participants styled themselves and walked in a mini fashion show! Fun, innit? Blinky showed 3 batches of shoppers around the pieces that they can wear and advised which style suits them best to especially enhance their look.
It’s not a secret that I love floral prints so it’s no surprise as well that this style became an easy-favorite for me. Match your summer wear with them Instragram-able coco trees. Put a flower behind your ear whilst wearing them, too. Did you know, in Hawaiian culture, a flower behind your left ear means married, behind the right means the opposite? But, it means you’re fun when you wear it as a one piece or two.
Blues and Whites
Here are some pieces by GTW and Coco Cabana for you to wear the hues of the sky. Flowy maxis with minimal stitch details are great for beach side strolls and sunset walks. You can also wear some of these at the office if you’re feeling blue with all those deadlines because why not! Bring the summer with you if you can’t summer, boo!
If you like creating illusions with your body, grab some of these stripe pieces. Vertical stripes if you want to look tall and slender, horizontal ones if you want to add a bit of width, diagonal stripes for when you want to add curves. Either way, it’s your call which you prefer, but I absolutely love this one piece in red and blue. Straightforward and no fuss, I love the buttons at the front and the horizontal lining at the middle that might just cinch your waist a bit.
Those who love their little black dresses can now heave a sigh of relief. You can wear your blacks at the beach, with the right detailing! Black traps heat, so it’s not practical in a beach setting. However, if you go thin and see through, then you can wear them all-day, all-night without sweating your body off. Floral or minimal but bright embroideries also help in making them summer-appropriate.
This black and white see-through kimono is everyone’s favorite. You can add this on top of your plain suits to give it a gorgeous oomph. I think I’m gonna go back and get the black piece, too. Save some for me, guys!
Geometrics and Brights
Before we go to all-whites, here are some of the other styles that are a mix of everything that I’ve mentioned. Shapes, lines, and multi-colored pieces are some of the fun ways to wear this summer. Have a go at being bold and bright at the beach!
The shopper-participants styled themselves for half an hour and walked the talk! To appreciate their sense of style and how well they applied SM Woman’s style edit, 3 of them (from 3 batches) won a Php 1,500 shopping spree at SM and gift bags!
Forgive me, but I totally skipped the all-whites rack when I took photos of the pieces. But during our batch of fashionistas, it was a big hit. Here’s how I styled an all-white ensemble!
I started picking out a bunch of all-white dresses and decided to wear this white midi-dress. It has straps but I decided to hide them to convert it into a tube top. With so much blank canvas from my neck to my chest, any neck or shoulder accessory would help. I tied a white-and-orange scarf around my neck to fill the void and to add a hint of summer to my all-white dress without standing out too much. Subtle and chic! I, also, love how the ruffles on the bust and garter on my waist enhanced the natural curve of my body. To complete my summer look, I added this beautiful woven bag with wooden handle and a currently trendy colored eyewear. How did I do?
My friend Toni, of Perfumed Red Shoes and Cebu Fashion Bloggers as well, also chose an all-white ensemble with a white cami top and white palazzo pants which is actually her signature look. Then, she mixed it up with the romantic see through kimono making her entire look sweet, gorgeous and a favorite!
Another fashionista and friend Kat, of Keiseee In The City and Cebu Fashion Bloggers, went ahead and got creative with combining botanical and blues & whites with her look. Looking so trendy in her off-shoulders top (which is actually a romper, I know, genius) and white shorts with minimal colored embroidery. With an added oomph from a scarf-headband and pink glasses, she’s off to have some fun at the beach!
Us CFB girls with pretty Vania, Toni’s daughter, who so effortlessly stole the show! Gosh, she’s so cute!
With the charming and welcoming team behind Summer ’17 Style Edit at SM Seaside! Thanks for having us, it was such a fun day!
Now that you’ve seen SM Woman’s summer pieces, I’m sure it’ll be easier for you to style your way through summer! Have a great one, ladies!
