Back when I was still in grade school, way before Koreanovelas were a hit in the country, Meteor Garden was one of the first, if not the first, Asian Telenovelas that took the country by storm. The show, F4 (the protagonist boy band) and leading lady Shancai (Barbie Shu) were greatly received by the Filipino audience that they visited the country multiple times, had sold out concerts and even undubbed Taiwanese songs took the top of the charts. I remember crushing so hard on Vic Zhou and Jerry Yan, and sometimes Ken Chu, too. I’m sorry Vaness Wu, you weren’t just my type, haha.
We were quite tired at this point, our feet were weary so we didn’t get to the main campus, which, I assume, is at the end of this boulevard. This same boulevard was in the first few scenes of Meteor Garden, when they arrived at the University in their grandiose super cars. We only walked halfway through and stopped at the Central Administration Building.
I’d like to think this building was also featured in Meteor Garden because of it’s striking facade. It reminds me of the buildings and museums in the UK, as well as those typical Universities in movies, like Harvard maybe? Especially with its brick color and massive columns.
Cars barely drive through the place, most are walking or on their bikes. In fact, the outside of the university looks like they’re having a massive sale on bikes. There are also for rent ones.
Aside from being impressively clean, they also have beautiful gardens fronting their offices and dorms, with signage of their scientific names.
It may not be very touristy, and I suppose this is low priority among the tourist spots to visit in Taipei, it’s still worth a visit to observe their culture inside schools.
