I am an advocate of self-love and anything about taking good care of oneself. May it be mental or physical or all the ones ending in -al.
It all started, I believe, after graduating from college and being thrown out in the world with little to no idea what to do. My path was suddenly entirely up to me and admittedly, I was horrible in creating one for myself, at first. Stress and mental health was compromised, then my human body. In a light bulb moment, I decided to give myself space, less pressure and happiness… albeit, simple ones. My answer to that became this blog, yoga, creative brainstorms and shopping sprees which include but not limited to make up and skin care. And here we are. In honor of the upcoming Valentine’s Day, I’d like to ramble on about the love for oneself!
Believe me when I say, I do not shop for high-end make up. I just can’t bring myself to justify that 50-dollar lipstick, as beautiful as it may be. So drugstore and mid-budget range (think MAC, Urban Decay) is where I go.
Funnily enough, the UK (and US, and Japan?) drugstore make up is somewhat considered expensive here in the Philippines, already. Hence, my reason to avoid high-end products may as well apply for drugstore ones. I think, I’m just poor. Haha Before my trip, I listed products that I really wanted to try and sorted it to help me decide which fits within the budget. Boots UK is a good place to start as they have good stocks. Here in PH, it’s similar to Watson’s.
L-R: Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara, Smashbox Photo Finish Lash Primer, NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Copenhagen, No. 7 Lash Impact Intense Volume Control, Benefit Gimme Brow in 3 Brow-Volumizing Fiber Gel, Duo Brush-On Adhesive and Maybelline Color Sensation Matte Lipstick in 660: Touch of Spice
My hooded eyelid is the reason why 3 out of the x products here are for lashes. As much as I wanted to pick eye shadow palettes, it disappears on mine! More often than not, I don’t bother with putting on eyeshadows, at all. What I do, though, is to grab that mascara, add some false lashes and BAM. I am (exaggeratingly) a transformed woman.
Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara
I never put anything on my bottom lashes, as I always end up smudging it, so I decided to try the Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara. It could be a great product, but unfortunately for me, I need more than 5 bottom lashes to exist so that this product can achieve its full potential.
Smashbox Photo Finish Lash Primer
When I learned about this product from Smashbox, I immediately put it on high priority. Because again, a product can only do so much. My short lashes need this primer! It is, basically, a base coat (in white color) which will already create volume and length before your actual mascara. So you add a mascara on top of it which all add some more volume and length! Double the lashes!
No. 7 Lash Impact Intense Volume Control
I’ve always used Maybelline for my mascara, but it gets clumpy on top of the Smashbox primer. Luckily, this No. 7 mascara doesn’t.
Duo Brush-On Adhesive
I hoarded some false lashes (see below) and I’ve always known Duo but never found it in Cebu. I haven’t used it much, however, because I fell in love with the falsies’ own glue. But it’s great for beginners, it doesn’t dry out quick so you’ll have enough play time to put on that false lash correctly.
Benefit Gimme Brow in 3 Brow-Volumizing Fiber Gel
When I bought this product, I just found out about their newly opened shop in SM Seaside. Good news to me because I really like this product. Most of my photos in the UK, you’ll see that I don’t have perfectly-defined brows. That’s because I’m not fond of HD brows. I like them natural… but also, I can’t, for the life of me, draw myself good ones without getting nervous that it’s too much. This product is perfect for those who like to go natural with their eyebrows.
NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Copenhagen
I own a couple of these already, Antwerp being a favorite, but I’ve always wanted Copenhagen which is always out of stock. This wasn’t even on my list but when I saw the overwhelming display, I just had to get it.
Maybelline Color Sensation Matte Lipstick in 660: Touch of Spice
Maybelline went all out sale during the holidays leading up to January. I got this at Watson’s Ayala for only Php 150 from the original price of Php299. The color is lighter than the one in the picture, forgive me and my room lighting. It’s perfect for everyday wear and a definite My-Lips-But-Better candidate.
Bourjois Bronzing Powder in Tropical Festival
I’m no fan of chocolate, as you all know, but I was very curious about this product. I have limited experience with smelling chocolates but this one smells so delightful. Plus points that it is pigmented and actually works!
Eylure x Fleur de Force Lashes: Fully Fleur, Fleur Loves, Petit Fleur, Fleur & Fabulous, Simply Fleur
Eylure x Fleur de Force Lashes
Oooh, boy. This bunch is my favorite. Fleur is a familiar face to me because she’s a YouTuber and I’ve seen her videos. I’m not a fan but this line made me a fan of hers. It’s the perfect style of lashes for me: wispy, comfortable, lightweight and reusable! The lash glue also works like a charm that I refuse to use others anymore. I also love that there’s one for every occasion. You go natural with Simply Fleur, natural but winged out with Petit Fleur, winged out and a bit of volume with Fleur Loves, day parties or weddings for thick but still wispy Fully Fleur and full on night glam for thick and heavy Fleur & Fabulous.
Primark Natural Falsies, Fashion Nails in Nearly Nude (Pointed Shade)
Primark isn’t a drugstore but with their price point, they might as well be. For a pound each, I got this natural false lashes and fake nude nails. I, also, got some french tips fake nails that I used at The Shard and Duck & Waffle (blogs will be up next!). The lash is rather long, so you have to cut it according to your eye size and you basically get what you paid for. I went to Primark before Boots that’s why I got this just in case I don’t find any in Boots (but hey, some Fleur miracle happened). The fake nails, I have nothing to compare it with. It was my first time and the experience was a bit funny. My boyfriend and I kept getting surprised at one of the nails being flicked off. He had to hold my hand in a way that my fake-nail-less finger gets covered, haha. My fault mostly, I’m no expert with putting them on, how I glued it was pretty messy, some was solid hard and some, well, flicks off. Glue was hard to remove from my nails, too. I think it’s not how it’s supposed to be, but well.
Nature Republic 92% Aloe Vera Soothing Gel
My skincare haul is from Taiwan when we went a year ago. Most of them, I’ve used up already. Some are thankfully not expired yet. Good asian skin care products aren’t accessible yet in the Philippines, but I see some brands slowly putting up small shops in new malls. Fingers crossed, they go full force!
Aloe Vera is one ingredient that I tend to choose in skin care products. I guess because it’s fresh and light. This soothing gel is apparently for everything. The woman who explained to me back in Taiwan showed me that it could be for face, body and even, hair. However, I’m just using it as a moisturizer, especially during a hot, summer day! It’s perfect when it’s cold. Instantly wakes you up and gives you a refreshing start to the day.
Nature Republic Real Nature Seed Masks in Avocado, Camellia, Chia, Green Tea, Moringa
I discovered only last year that facial masks are a thing. A thing from heaven, I say!! On very stressful days, I destress by putting masks on before I sleep. Gives me an hour of relief and takes me away from the harsh world, haha!
Don’t worry about not knowing which “flavors” to get because it’s the description you want to choose from. As for me, I chose mostly the hydrating ones and oil-control.
Avocado – For deep nourishing
Camellia – For hydration, moisture oil control, and nourishment
Chia – For oil control and hydration
Green Tea – For soothing, hydration and moisture
Moringa – For brightening and hydrating
InnisFree Super Volcanic Pore Clay Mask, It’s Real Squeeze Mask in Shea Butter, Aloe and Cucumber
The clay mask I have yet to try but it’s made from volcanic explosions in Jeju, Korea. Wicked, isn’t it? Very hardcore to put volcano excess to your face. It is described to be effective in removing sebum (oil) and other impurities.
The real squeeze mask is just as pleasant as other mask sheets I’ve tried.
Shea Butter – For deeply hydrating dry skin within
Aloe – For soothing and moisturizing stressed skin
Cucumber – For clear skin and vital with natural moisture
